This is my third project at the university of Florida. The Field, my latest architectural endeavor, marks the culmination of my journey towards a mastery of foundational spatial concepts while introducing a novel strategy for design generation. Building on the analysis of spatial implications within a chosen weaving’s composition. I had to create a three-dimensional construct, named ‘the field.’ Positioned as an in-between scale, ‘the field’ operates as a mediator or transition, offering a purposeful relationship between varying scales and spatial situations. Whether vertically or horizontally oriented, this interpretive analytical construct becomes the context that both informs and is transformed by my intervention. The dynamic transition between ‘the field’ and the spaces designed within referred to as the ‘rooms, nodes, or thresholds’— evokes a meticulous consideration of spatial joints. The character spaces I chose were publisher and photographer. This was also the first time I used angles and curves that were not strictly 90 degrees. This project extends beyond conventional definitions of a ‘room,’ challenging me to conceive spaces. While doing this project I drew upon the lessons learned throughout the semester, recognizing that each incremental step contributes to the consolidation and solidification of conceptual and intellectual tools for my evolving design process. In the home stretch of this transformative journey, The Field serves as an overall symbol of the lessons learned during my first semester in the program.
